Lady Bears overwhelm visiting Delgado, 84-52

The Lady Bears returned from the Thanksgiving break Saturday afternoon and overwhelmed the visiting Delgado Lady Dolphins, 84-52, to run their record to 6-1 on the season.
 
The Lady Bears jumped out to an early 7-0 on the Lady Dolphins (2-8) and, behind two Teshia Jones three-pointers, held an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
It was all Lady Bears in the second quarter. A pair of A' Keyia McDyess free throws had the home team on top by 26 points, 40-14, with 3:57 left in the half. They then went into intermission with a 47-21 advantage.
 
The Delgado opened the third quarter on a 16-4 run to pull back to within 14 points, 51-37, with 5:15 on the clock. Erille Stewart hit a free throw with 0:05 showing to pull the visitors back to within 11, 59-48, at the end of the third quarter.
 
Regaining their lost momentum, the Lady Bears put the game away quickly in the fourth quarter. A pair of
Gabriella Cortez free throws put made the score 68-48 with just under 8:00 left in the game. Ariel McDaniel hit a basket with 2:02 left to make the score 82-48.
 
Delgado scored their only points on the quarter, with under 2:00 to play, on four Mikayla Lyons free throws.
 
Jones led the Lady Bears' offense with 18 points. Shalisa Hawthorne and Lillie Snowden both scored 12 points while Alissa Adam and Cortez both netted 10. The Lady Bears made good on 13 of 19 free throws.
 
Delgado was paced by Katherine Ward's 13 points. The Lady Dolphins hit 10 of 14 free throws.
 
The Lady Bears return to action on December 3 when they open MACJC South Division play with a 5:30 home matchup against Pearl River.
