The 2015 football season came to an end for the Southwest Bears Thursday night as the Hinds Eagles came to Summit and left with a 38-17 victory.

The Bears close out the year with a 3-6 overall mark and 1-5 MACJC South Division record. Hinds finishes the year at 6-3 and 4-2.

A home-team win seemed a distinct possibility in the first quarter.
Reed James put the Bears on the board at the 9:43 mark when his 21-yard field goal closed out a 54-yard, 12-play drive.  With 2:45 on the clock, Sidney Davis, Jr. ., capped a nine-play, 41-yard drive with a one-yard dash into the end zone. James notched the PAT to put the Bears up 10-0 with three quarters still to play.

The second quarter belonged to the Eagles. A 35-yard Mason Sollie put the visitors on the board with 11:36 left in the half and they later added a Jaquez Parks touchdown run and Parks to Bryant McDuffie touchdown pass. Sollie booted two extra points to give the Eagles a 17-10 lead at the end of the first half.

The Eagles scored the only points of the third quarter, and extended their lead to 24-10, when DeCory McGee scored on a 20-yard interception return. Sollie again added the PAT.

A 44-yard Greg Taylor punt return for a score and a 43-yard touchdown reception by Jahmir Taylor and Sollie's extra points gave the Eagles a 38-10 lead with 2:57 left in the game.

The Bears picked up the final points of the game when, with 2:04 remaining,
Casey Haygood found Kameron Williams on the receiving end of a 53-yard touchdown pass. James added the extra point.

Asked what turned things around after the Bears got off to the fast start, head coach Tucker Peavey said, "It was real simple. They (Hinds) started blitzing us and, as hobbled as we are, we couldn't move well enough to pick it up. At the end of the day, that was what the difference was for them stopping us or slowing us down."

Peavey did see some positives for the Bears as they look to next season. "With as many guys hurt as we had," he said, "a lot of guys got to play more than they might have otherwise. Hopefully they can see what they've got to do to compete and win in this league."

LaDarion Peterson and Justin Blue tallied 56 rushing yard to lead the Bears in that category. Davis, Jr., had a one-yard touchdown carry.

Haygood completed six of 13 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown while
Tyler Shell was good on seven of 13 passes for 57 yards with an interception.

Williams topped the Bears' receiving corps with five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Davis, Jr., had three receptions for 32 yards.

The Bears had 17 first downs in the game and were penalized six times for 60 yards.
Brandon Mancuso punted five times for a 28.6 yard average and James punted once for 52 yards.

Parks led the Hinds offense, carrying the ball 15 times for 108 yards and a touchdown and completing 15 of 26 passes for 216 yards and two scores.

The Eagles had 19 first downs on the night and were penalized eight times for 76 yards. Zack Schemmel punted three times for a 40.3 average.
