Unable to overcome a large, early deficit, Southwest Lady Bears were defeated by arch-rival Co-Lin Tuesday night, 77-55, in Wesson.

The Lady Bears trailed 11-0 before a Cortney Epting three-pointer made it 11-3 with 15:27 left in the half. Trailing 24-9, the Lady Bears finally found their rhythm and went on an 11-0 run, jump started by a Talisa Sherman jumper, to pull back to within 24-20 with 3:44 left in the half.

Unfortunately, Co-Lin regained its momentum and scored 10 of the next 13 points in the game to take a 34-23 lead at the end of the first 20:00 of play.

Seven points from Sherman helped the Lady Bears (7-7, 3-2) come back to within six points, 39-33, with 15:20 left in the contest. Co-Lin held a 43-34 lead with 13:57 to go before going on a 16-4 run to pull out to a comfortable 59-38 lead with 7:05 on the clock. The Lady Bears were unable to come any closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Speaking of the Lady Bears' 11-0 run in the first half, Southwest head coach Brent Harris said "We cut it to four (in the first half) then we had some careless turnovers (that allowed Co-Lin's lead) to balloon back up to 11. That was tough to overcome going into halftime. But, we made a nice run here and there. We had the right game plan, I think. We just had some key turnovers that hurt us."

Sherman and Teshia Jones led the Lady Bears with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Epting and Gabriella Cortez both scored six points while Madison Mault and Eyonna Wolfe both had five.

Ke' Asia Gray netted four points in the game, Tatyana Turner had three and Lillie Snowden added two. The Lady Bears made good on five of seven free throws.

Alexis Collins scored 16 points for Co-Lin to lead all scorers. She and her teammates hit eight of 13 free throws.

The Lady Bears hit the hardwood again Thursday night at 5:30 when they host Jones County.
