Bears, Bulldogs battle to 1-1 tie in double overtime

The Southwest Bears and Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs played to a1-1 double overtime tie Saturday in MACJC South Division soccer action in Perkinston. With the tie, the Bears move to 1-5-2 on the season and 1-1-1in the South. Gulf Coast now stands at 2-3-1 and 1-1-1.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead at the break on the strength of a Deonte Butler goal. The score held up until 80:00 of the second half when the Bears' Brenden Nicholson took a pass from De' Anthony Williams and scored to knot the match at 1-1. Neither team was able to score in the final 10:00 of regulation nor either of the 10:00 overtime periods leaving them deadlocked.

Goalie Bryant Boyington had 17 saves for the Bears, the biggest of which came on a Gulf Coast penalty kick in the second half.

The Bears return to action Tuesday when they travel to Ellisville to face Jones County. The match is set to begin at 7:00.
