4th-ranked Jones County takes two from Lady Bears

The Southwest Lady Bears dropped their final home games of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling to 4th-ranked Jones County 10-1 and 9-1, in a pair of MACJC South Division contests.
 
Southwest closes out the season today when they travel to Perkinston to face Mississippi Gulf Coast. Game one of the twinbill is set for a 2:00 first pitch.
 
The Lady Bears (11-26, 7-19) were down 1-0 in the opener before scoring their only run in the bottom of the third inning. Marisa Pruski reached second base on an error to lead off the frame, moved to third on a steal and reached the plate when Maddy Teague singled to centerfield.
 
Jones County broke the deadlock with a solo run in the top of the fifth and ended the game with an eight-run sixth inning.
 
Teague took the loss in the circle, giving up all 10 runs (two unearned) on nine hits while striking out two batters and walking eight. Leann Jackson gave a hit and struck out one in one inning of work. Shaden Miller and Harley Myers both hit safely.
 
In the finale, Jones County (40-2, 26-2) was on top 5-0 before the Lady Bears scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth. Chelsea Nette led off the inning with the only hit of the game for the home team, moved to second on a Myers sacrifice and scored on an error. The visitors then added another run in the top of the fifth and three more in the sixth.
 
Keely Fortenberry took the loss for the Lady Bears, allowing eight runs (one unearned) on 11 hits in 5.1 innings. She struck out two batters and walked five. Leann Jackson struck out a batter and gave up hits in less than an inning of work.
