Southwest dropped a pair of non-division soccer matches to visiting East Central Tuesday afternoon. The Bears went down 2-1 to move to 0-1-1 on the young season while the Lady Bears fell to 0-2 with a 2-0 East Central win.
Both Southwest teams return to action Tuesday when they play host to Holmes Community College. Match times are 2:00 for the ladies and 4:00 for the men.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the men's game on Conner Masters' goal at 24:20 of the first half. Joel Villa provided the assist. The lead held up until 41:18 of the half when East Central tied things 1-1 on Taylor Potter's goal off an assist from Joseph Gaskin.
The teams remained deadlocked the rest of the half and most of the second until the Warriors' Will Thompson scored, with an assist from Tyravian Miller, at 70:39. Despite several chances, the Bears were unable to answer the goal as East Central escaped with the win. Southwest keeper Will Evans saved four of six shots on goal.
