Bears split with BRCC

The Southwest Bears picked up three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 win home standing Baton Rouge Community College Wednesday. BRCC achieved a split on the day with a 3-1 victory in the finale.
 
Southwest (3-3) returns home today to host Coahoma. Game one of the twinbill is set for 2:00. Both games will be available on the internet at southwestbearathletics.com or k106.net. They can also be heard on smart phones by downloading the Tune In app and searching for k106.
 
Trailing 3-0 in the opener, the Bears made it 3-1 in the top of the fifth when singles by Kendric Hodges and Kyle Crifasi led to Marvin Van Buren reaching the plate.
 
Crifasi led off the top of the seventh with his third base hit before scoring on Logan Ferrell’s one-out single to down the right field line. Brandon Austin, with his second hit, and Collin Carroll kept the hit parade going to loaded the bases. Kade Scivicque ended the hitting with another single to left to send Austin and Carroll home to put the Bears up 4-3.
 
Scivicque then took to the mound in the bottom of the seventh, retiring all three batters he faced, to save the game for starter Trace Robinson. Robinson scattered seven hits over his six innings, gave up one earned run. He struck out five batters while issuing no walks. Scivicque had one strikeout.
 
Southwest took a 1-0 lead in the second game when Carroll singled with two outs and scored on Scivicque’s double to centerfield. That proved to be all the offense the Bears could muster as BRCC scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to take the win.

Jesse Travis took the loss on the mound for the Bears, surrendering two runs on six hits through four innings. He struck out three batters while walking four. Chase Ladd and Jared Simon pitched in relief.
 
Scivicque added two singles in the game while Austin also hit safely.
