Lady Bears sweep Mississippi Delta

 
Southwest picked up 24 hits in two games in sweeping host Mississippi Delta, 7-4 and 11-8, Wednesday in MACJC non-division softball action. The wins move the Lady Bears to 4-6 on the year.
 
Southwest scored two runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings plus one in the third in taking the win in game one. Carrie Phillips had three hits and two runs batted in while Brie Harper had two hits and an RBI. Kristen Gekler also hit safely. Sophomore pitcher Rachel Smith went the distance in picking up the win.
 
Southwest scored runs in all seven innings to take the win in game two. Phillips and Marisa Pruski both had three hits for the Lady Bears while Harper, Gekler, Amy Lea, Mary Margaret McLaurin and Chelsea Nette all had two hits. Harley Myers and Miranda Smith also hit safely.
 
Gekler was the winning pitcher for Southwest. Smith started the game in the circle before giving way to Phillips.
 
Southwest is set to return to action Friday when they travel to Scooba to face East Mississippi for a 1:00 doubleheader.
