Lady Bears drop two to 10th ranked Jones County

The Southwest softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road in Ellisville Saturday as host Jones County, ranked 10th in the nation, picked up a 7-0 victory in game one and followed up with a 9-1 win in the finale.

The Lady Bobcats (20-3, 6-2 South) recorded two runs in the fourth inning of the opener and added five more in the sixth. Southwest was held to a third-inning single by freshman Mandy Szigeti. Pitcher Rachel Smith was saddled with the loss. She gave up only four hits while striking out three and walking 10.

In the finale, a Camden Graham double scored Brooke Szigeti for the only run of the day for Southwest. Szigeti had doubled earlier in the inning.

Graham added a single to her day while Grace Bravata had a double. Katie Allen and Tipheri Grimes both recorded singles. Smith again took the loss as she gave up eight hits while striking out three and walking four.

The Lady Bears return to action Tuesday when they travel to East Central for a 3:00 doubleheader.
