    Assistant Coach

Brenden Flannell is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Bear Men’s Soccer Team. He brings a wealth of experience to Southwest, both as a former professional player and coach.

A native from Mansfield, IL, Flannell grew up playing for his school, Blue Ridge CUSD #18 and for local travel clubs Illinois FC and Mahomet-Seymour SC. After graduating high school in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Flannell faced limited options and decided to stay close to home, signing with Millikin University in Decatur, IL. He played there for 2.5 years before leaving to pursue his soccer dreams. Flannell moved to Detroit, MI, and began playing professional indoor soccer with Detroit Waza Flo, where he also assisted in coaching the women’s professional indoor team.

At the end of that season, he moved to Windsor, Ontario, to play for Windsor City FC. After one season in Canada, Flannell returned to college, enrolling at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in International Business.

Following graduation, he returned to professional indoor soccer with Summit City United in Fort Wayne, IN. While in Fort Wayne, he assisted with both the semi-pro indoor team and the Indiana Tech University men’s soccer team.

In addition to his duties at Southwest, he has also been hired as an assistant coach at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he will work with the staff of the women’s soccer team
