Lady Bears run rule Northeast on Sophomore Night

Southwest Mississippi Softball hosted Northeast on Friday, April 24th for Sophomore Night and the last home games of the season for the Lady Bears.

Southwest won game one 9-1 and lost game two 3-11.

Allie Ladnier pitched all of game one in a run rule win for Southwest.

Ladnier pitched 5.0 innings with 1 strikeout and 1 run allowed.

The scoring started when a Kate Clements walk walked in a run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead.

The very next inning, Southwest put up a massive 5-run inning to extend the lead to 6-0.

An Allie Ladnier double scored 1 run followed by a Corin Talbot single that scored 2 runs and pushed the score to 4-0.

Jana Phillips single to score the final 2 runs of the inning and move the score to 6-0.

The final 3 Lady Bear runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning and activated a walk-off run rule win for Southwest.

A pair of singles and an error loaded the bases for the Lady Bears in the fifth.

Corin Talbot singled to score 1 run and put the score at 7-1.

Alexis Dejean sacrificed next to score another run and put the score at 8-1.

Needing only 1 more run with the bases loaded, Tristan Allen singled down the third base line to score Allie Ladnier and activate the run rule victory with a final score of 9-1.

Bailey McLin led the team with 3 hits. Allie Ladnier, Corin Talbot, Kate Clements, and Tristan Allen each had 2 hits. Alexis Dejean, Madalyn Ashford, and Jana Phillips all had 1 hit.

Allie Ladnier had 2 doubles.

Jana Phillips and Corin Talbot both had 2 RBIs. Allie Ladnier, Alexis Dejean, Kate Clements, and Tristan Allen each had 1.

Game two ended with the opposite result of game one with Southwest losing 3-11.

Ballard Kraft started on the mound for the Lady Bears in game two.

Kraft pitched 2.0 innings before Tye Boone took over.

Boone pitched 1.0 innings.

Mary Claire Salley came in for 1.2 innings with 1 strikeout.

Allie Ladnier came back in in the final moments of game two to help record the final outs.

Bailey McLin led the team with 2 hits. Alexis Dejean, Kate Clements, and Jana Phillips each had 1 hit.

Madalyn Ashford, Bailey McLin, and Jana Phillips each had 1 RBI as well.

The Lady Bears finished the regular season 28-16, 15-13 in conference.

They will enter the postseason as the #9 seed and face #8 Hinds on Saturday, May 2nd in the play-in game in the Region 23 Tournament.
