Southwest Mississippi Softball hosted No. 6 Jones College on Tuesday, March 24th in a doubleheader losing game one 2-1 and winning game two 17-9 by run rule.

Allie Ladnier pitched the entirety of game one for the Lady Bears in a hard-fought pitching duel.

Ladnier pitched 7.0 innings with 4 strikeouts and only 2 runs allowed.

There were only 8 total hits in the game between both teams with Southwest having 3 of them.

Allie Ladnier, Alexis Dejean(2B), and Kate Clements had 1 hit each.

The lone Southwest run came when Corin Talbot scored from third base on a passed ball at the plate.

The Lady Bears would lose game one 2-1.

Game two was a completely different story.

Ballard Kraft started on the mound in game two before shortly being replaced by Mary Claire Salley.

The pair combined for 1 strikeout in the first two innings.

Corin Talbot came in to finish the second in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

After finally getting out of the top of the inning, the Lady Bears were down 7-2.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Bears roared back with 8 runs to retake the lead from Jones and would never give it back.

Talbot would finish with 1 strikeout and 1 run allowed before Allie Ladnier would take her place after pitching the entire first game.

Ladnier pitched the final 3.0 innings with 1 strikeout and only 1 hit and run allowed while picking up the save.

Talbot would go on to pick up the win for Southwest.

Jones opened up the game with a 3-run first inning, but Southwest answered back quickly with 2 runs from an Alexis Dejean homer in the bottom of the first.

After putting up 4 more runs in the top of the second, Jones really began to pour the pressure onto the Lady Bears.

But they answered once again.

With an astounding 8 runs in the bottom of the second, Southwest fought back into the game.

With an assortment of walks and hit by pitches to help, 2 runs scored on a Corin Talbot double.

A few at bats later and 2 more runs would score on a Kate Clements single that moved the scored to 7-6.

A bases loaded walk to Jana Phillips would tie the game 7-7 before a Madalyn Ashford double cleared the bases for Southwest and put them up 10-7 over Jones.

Going into the fourth inning, the Lady Bears still led 10-8 when Tristan Allen hit a nuke to left field to move the score to 11-8 in favor of Southwest.

Leading 11-9 in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bears needed a few more insurance runs when Alexis Dejean hit her second homer of the day to put the score at 13-9.

After a Kate Clements walk, Tristan Allen stepped back up to the plate and hit her second homerun of the evening, pushing the score to 15-9.

Now in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bears had two runners on base after a Bailey McLin single and Corin Talbot walk.

An Allie Ladnier double scored McLin and moved Talbot to third base with a new score of 16-9.

Shortly after, an Alexis Dejean sacrifice fly scored Corin Talbot to put the Lady Bears up 17-9 over Jones College and activate the run rule, ending the game.

The Lady Bears put up an impressive 17 hits to match their 17 runs as well as 17 RBIs.

Corin Talbot lead the team with 3 hits, two of them being doubles.

Bailey McLin, Allie Ladnier, Alexis Dejean, Kate Clements, Tristan Allen, and Jana Phillips all had 2 hits in game two. Madalyn Ashford and Lauryn Roebuck both had 1 hit.

Alexis Dejean and Tristan Allen both had 2 homeruns in the game.

Allie Ladnier, Jana Phillips, Kate Clements, and Madalyn Ashford each had a double as well.

Alexis Dejean led the team with 5 RBIs. Tristan Allen and Madalyn Ashford each followed with 3 of their own. Corin Talbot and Kate Clements each had 2 while Allie Ladnier and Jana Phillips both had 1.

Allie Ladnier also totaled 150 pitches between the two games.

"The fight in this group is phenomenal, and what I was impressed with once again was they don't drop their heads," said Head Coach Shea Johnson, "hats off to Jones, but I felt like our kids rose to the occasion. This is our first time facing a ranked opponent… I think it's a big accomplishment for our kids."

"I mean, to score 17 runs against those pitches is really something that's impressive. And they didn't walk everybody. We did it by being disciplined at the plate. We did it on hits," said Coach Johnson, "and when your hits match your runs, you're really effective."

"I want to give them a shout out, those unsung heroes. Because those kids don't always get an opportunity playing behind a great group of starters and those kids still work their butts off at practice. Aubre Martin comes in and plays an inning while Corin warms up, and then Presleigh plays second while she's in the circle. And nobody really sees those substitutions but that's the unselfish play of a team that does what they need to do. We got one girl that's just really running the bases for us right now," said Coach Johnson, "I think the team part is so good. That's so impressive to me, because we got to be a team first, and that's what allows you to do what we're doing."

The Lady Bears (19-5, 6-2*conference) go on the road to take on Mississippi Delta on Thursday, March 26th.
