Lady Bear Softball stays hot on the road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Southwest Mississippi Softball traveled to Alabama Thursday and Friday February 5-6th for doubleheaders against Coastal Alabama North and Reid State Technical College.

The Lady Bears split the February 5th doubleheader with the Coastal Alabama North Coyotes with the second game being called early due to darkness.

Southwest lost game one against the Coyotes 6-7 but saw 7 strikeouts from Allie Ladnier and 3 strikeouts from Ballard Kraft.

The Lady Bears were up 14-8 in game two when the game was ended early in the 4th inning due to darkness.

Corin Talbot and Tristan Allen both had a homerun and two hits in the contest. Bailey McLin also had two hits of her own.

Southwest faced Reid State on Friday the 6th and won both games of the doubleheader, scoring 12 runs in each.

In game one, Corin Talbot pitched 5 innings and totaled 11 strikeouts and allowed only one hit. Allie Ladnier pitched the other 2 innings totaling 3 strikeouts of her own.

Tristan Allen hit two homeruns with 4 RBIs to lead the Lady Bears to a 12-3 victory in game one.

Bailey McLin (x2), Kate Clements, Madalyn Ashford, and Presleigh Atwood each recorded a stolen base in the game.

Southwest would go on to win game two against Reid State 12-0 by mercy rule in only five innings.

Alexis Dejean, Allie Ladnier, and Jana Phillips each had a homerun in the game. Jana Phillips totaled 6 RBIs with Alexis Dejean just behind her with 3 RBIs of her own.

Allie Ladnier and Ballard Kraft controlled the mound for the Lady Bears, combining for 5 strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Jana Phillips and Madalyn Ashford each stole a base in the contest.

"Really proud of the way we hit it and pitched it! We need to be a little better on the defensive side, but we did improve on day two defensively," said Head Coach Shea Johnson, "Super proud of our bats! Our team is still growing every outing! I think the future is bright for this group."

The Lady Bears improve to 5-2 on the season and will stay on the road as they travel to Baton Rouge on Thursday, February 12th to take on Baton Rouge Community College.
