Bishop State gets win over Lady Bears

Box Score After a slow start by both teams, the visiting Bishop State Lady Wildcats put everything together and left Summit with a 75-55 win over the Lady Bears.

Three ties and a lead change were the story of the game for the first 5:30 of the 1st quarter. The Lady Bears (2-6) took their only lead of the night, 6-4, on a Kori Ware layup with 6:12 on the clock.

The visitors then went on an 8-0 run to go up 12-6 with 4:00 left in the quarter. They would go on to hold a 21-11 advantage at the end of the first 10:00 of play.

Bishop State maintained a double-digit lead throughout the 2nd quarter. They went up by 16 points with 6:38 on the clock and held a 36-25 lead going into the locker room at the end of the half.

The Lady Bears pulled to within nine points early in the 3rd quarter before Bishop State moved back out to a double-digit lead.

A Mady Smith bucket drew the Lady Bears to within 10, 46-36, with 3:10 left in the 3rd quarter before Bishop State scored 10 of the last 15 points to go up 56-41 with one quarter remaining.

The final quarter was, unfortunately for the home team, more of the same. Bishop State took its largest lead of the night, 71-49, with 5:19 to go and would go on to claim the 20-point victory.

Smith topped the Lady Bears' offense with 12 points. She and her teammates combined to make 13 of 18 free throws.

The Lady Bears return to action on December 11 when they travel to Goodman to face Holmes Community College in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30.
