Despite their best effort, the Bears came up short Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Gulf Coast Classic in Panama City, Florida, as they dropped 97-78 decision to the 5th-ranked Northwest Florida Raiders.

The Bears fell behind 16-0 in the first half before getting on board on a pair of Cy Merrett free throws and a Chidi Nwosu three-pointer to make the score 16-5 with 13:06 left in the first half.

From that point on, the Raiders would outscore the Bears 22-11 to move out to a 38-16 advantage with 4:54 on the clock.
Halftime would find the Raiders on top 52-33.

A Courterius Scott bucket would help the Bears (5-8) outscore the Raiders 21-13 to start the second half and help them pull to within 11, 65-54, with 12:24 remaining.

That, unfortunately, would be as close as the Bears would get the rest of the way would go on to claim the 19-point victory.

Scott topped the Bears' offense with 25 points in the game. Merrett totaled 17 points while Leano Rolle was also in double figures with 11 points.
The Bears made 23 of 32 free throws.

Rolle had 23 points for the Bears Friday night as they fell to the 6th-ranked, and Classic host, Gulf Coast State College Commodores 99-78. Merrett netted 15 points while  Scott totaled 13 and Chidi Nwosu scored 12. The Bears made good on 22 of 33 free throw attempts.

After taking time off for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Bears will return to action on January 2 in Columbia, Tennessee, when they will face Columbia State Community College in day one of the Columbia State Classic. They will make their first home appearance of the new year on January 20 against Mississippi Gulf Coast.
