Lady Bears open season with 88-44 win over Blue Mountain

The Lady Bears passed their season-opening contest with flying colors Friday night as they defeated the visiting Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers JV squad 88-44.

Head coach Brent Harris said post-game that he "was proud of the defensive effort" from his team. "We took good shots and took care of the ball."

The Lady Bears took an early 3-0 lead on Mady Smith's three-pointer less than a minute into the game. With Gracie Miller leading the way with 11 points, they found themselves on top 27-14 at the end of the initial quarter. Miller would end the night with a team-best 21 points.

The Toppers cut the Lady Bears' led to 30-22 with 6:45 left in the second quarter, before a 13-4 run allowed the home team to take a 43-26 advantage into the locker room at the half.

It was more of the same in the second half. Outscoring the visitors 22-11, the Lady Bears held a 65-37 lead going into the final quarter. Harmonie Neal basket with 3:00 left in the game gave the Lady Bears their largest lead of the game at 85-39.

Kayla Arterberry and Kori Ware both scored 10 points for the hosts. The Lady Bears made 12 of 23 free throws
