Bears come from behind to win at Bossier Parish

The Bears took on the Bossier Parish Cavaliers on the road in Bossier City, Louisiana, Friday night. After both teams held double digit leads, the Bears were the ones who pulled away in the last 60 seconds to secure the win and snap a four-game losing skid with an 85-79 victory.

The Cavaliers started the game on fire by hitting 4 three pointers and some free throws. They held an 18-6 lead at the 14:00 mark until sophomore Jay Kennedy launched a deep three-pointer to spark a 40-15 Bears run. A couple of Courterius Scott buckets followed by an old-fashioned three-point play by Cy Merrett put the Bears down by five with just under 12:00 showing.

Two Merrett free throws gave the Bears (3-6) the lead with 9:00 on the clock and they would not look back the rest of the half. After a drive and finish from forward Andre Ngomabie and a difficult three-point play from Scott, the Bears took their first double digit lead of the game with just under 4:00 on the clock. Going into halftime, the Bears were leading 46-33.

The Cavaliers started the second half strong, cutting their deficit six early in the half. Another pair of buckets from Merritt and Scott put the lead at back at nine with 11:10 remaining in the game.

Another run by the Cavaliers knotted the score at 63 with 8:00 left to play. Sophomore Leano Rolle had something to say about that as he drove to the basket for a bucket plus the foul with 6:30 left in the second half.

With 45 seconds left and a three-point advantage, the Bears had the ball with a chance to take a two-possession lead. Jaylen Haliburton attacked the middle of the floor and threw a dump-off pass to the cutting Leano Rolle who slammed it home for a five-point lead. Haliburton went on to hit a pair of clutch free throws with 20 seconds remaining to seal the deal.

The Bears were led by Scott's 32 points. Rolle pitched in with 19 points while  Merrett finished with 17. As a team, the Bears combined to make 12 of 20 free throws.

The Bears are back in action on November 4 when they face Delgado Community College in New Orleans. The game is set for a 6:00 start.
