Lady Bears unable to get past Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD — Despite a mostly-positive showing, the Lady Bears could not keep up with a hot-shooting Mississippi Delta squad as they fell 67-57, Thursday.

"I'm extremely proud of our group," Southwest head coach Brent Harris said. "They (Delta) are really, really good. I thought that we handled most of the night really well."

Both the Lady Bears (12-6, 2-3 MACCC) and the Lady Trojans battled back-and-forth early. The majority of the scoring for Southwest in the first quarter came courtesy of Mookie Lampley who scored half of the Lady Bears' 14 first quarter points.

In the second quarter, however, the Lady Trojans got into rhythm and flashed their skills connecting on mid-range jumpers and shots in the paint. Southwest trailed 35-26 at the half.

Unfortunately for Southwest, it was more of the same in the third quarter as the Delta offense continued to knock down shots.

In the final 10:00 of play, the Lady Bears cut into the Lady Trojans lead thanks in large part to stellar shooting from Gracie Miller. The freshman from Louisiana nailed two 3-pointers to open the fourth helping Southwest pull within six at 56-48.

But it was unfortunately as close at Southwest would get for the remainder of the contest as Delta pulled away before sealing the win.

Miller led Southwest with 24 points including six made 3-pointers. Kara Beth Addison had 14 points while Lampley finished with 13.

The Lady Bears return to action Monday at 5:30 p.m. hosting Northeast Mississippi.
