The Lady Bears moved into the MACJC tournament semi-final round Tuesday night with a 62-56 win over the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes Community College.

The Lady Bears moved to 17-7 with the win while Holmes' season ended with an 11-13 mark.

With the Lady Bears trailing 9-6, Jolie Williams scored eight points as they went on a 13-0 run to take a 19-9 lead with 2:32 left in the opening quarter.

A pair of D'Mya Wilson free throws at the end of the quarter then put the Lady Bears on top 23-17 at the end of the first 10:00 of play.

The Lady Bears matched their largest lead of the half when a Jade Myles layup gave them a 34-24 lead with 2:21 on the clock.

Wilson's bucket with under 1:00 left in the half then helped the Lady Bears take a 38-28 lead into the locker room at intermission.

The Lady Bears took their largest lead of the night, 40-28, on an Alexus Marsh layup early in the 3rd quarter. Holmes would pull to within five points on two occasions, but the Lady Bears maintained their lead and took a 50-42 advantage into the final quarter.

Holmes pulled to within two points twice in the 4th quarter, but the Lady Bears were able to withstand the challenge both times. Three free throws from Shylia McGee in the final 0:23 of the contest would seal the deal for the Lady Bears and send them on to the semis.

"I'm very proud of our energy and focus tonight," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "Everyone on the team contributed tonight. Jolie got it going from the perimeter, D'Mya made a very big finish with a minute to go (and) Shylia finished the game in strong fashion."

Williams topped the Lady Bears' offense with 20 points in the game. Wilson netted 15 points while McGee scored 10. The Lady Bears hit 15 of 25 free throws.

Holmes' Gabrielle Bunch led all scorers with 21 points. She and her teammates combined to go 16-23 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears will face tournament host East Mississippi, the North Division's top-seeded team, Wednesday night at 5:30. The winner will move on to the title game on Thursday.
