Lady Bears' win streak ends with loss at Co-Lin

The Lady Bears saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Monday night in Wesson as they fell to Co-Lin, 73-51.
 
Despite the loss, the Lady Bears (15-5 overall) maintained their hold on 2nd place in the MACJC South with an 8-3 mark. Co-Lin moved to 12-8 and 6-5.
 
After falling behind early, buckets from Alexus Marsh and Jolie Williams put the Lady Bears in a 4-4 first quarter tie with their hosts.
 
A 13-5 run by Co-Lin then put them on top 17-7 with 3:58 on the clock. The Lady Bears would pull to within 17-11 at the end of the quarter.
 
An old-fashioned three-point play by D'Mya Wilson trimmed the Lady Bears' deficit to 17-16 with 8:54 left in the second quarter. They would be outscored 18-13 the rest of the quarter to trail 35-29 at halftime.
 
Co-Lin scored the first five points of the third quarter to extend their lead to 40-29. A Shylia McGee layup then narrowed the Co-Lin lead to 40-31 with 7:38 on the clock.
 
Co-Lin then would go on a 16-7 run to close out the quarter to extend their lead to 56-38 with the fourth quarter still to come.
 
The Lady Bears would trail by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter as Co-Lin went on to claim the win.
 
"Co-Lin played extremely well," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris, "and we played as bad as we have all season. We did not compete at all on the boards. We will see what we are made of now."
 
Williams topped the Lady Bears' offense with 13 points. McGee and Marsh followed in double figures with 10 points each. The Lady Bears were 12-15 at the free throw line.
 
Co-Lin's Camryn Davis led all scorers with 20 points in the game. She and her teammates went 8-10 at the free throw line.
 
The Lady Bears celebrate Sophomore Night Thursday night as they make their final home appearance of the season with a scheduled 5:30 South Division matchup against 9th-ranked Jones.
