Women's Basketball | 2/18/2019 10:00:00 PM

The Lady Bears gave it their best shot Monday night, but it was not quite enough as they dropped a 57-49 MACJC South Division contest at home to the Pearl River Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Bears held a 5-2 lead, with 8:44 left in the first quarter, after a Ty Lee jumper from close range. They would score six of the last nine points in the quarter to take a 14-7 lead.

A 9-2 run by Pearl River (15-7, 8-5) put the visitors (15-7, 8-5) on top 19-16 with 4:49 left in the second quarter. Scoring seven of the next eight points, the Lady Bears regained the lead, 23-20, on a Tootie Rankin layup.

The Lady Bears would go on to take a 26-25 advantage in the locker room at intermission.

Pearl River scored the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 34-27 lead and would not be headed the rest of the night. They would go on to lead 43-35 at the end of the quarter.

Pearl River took their biggest lead of the game, 48-35, with 6:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears then outscored the visitors 12-5 over the next 4:06 to pull to within 53-47 with 2:45 left. But, that would be as close as they would get as Pearl River went on to claim the eight-point win.

Rankin and Lee led the Lady Bears' offense with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Lady Bears went 9-16 at the free throw line.

Jakia Harper topped the Pearl River offense with 12 points. She and her teammates combined to go 8-13 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears close out the season Thursday night when they host East Central in a 5:30 South Division matchup.
