Bears drop a pair at home to #1 Jones County

The Bears dropped a home MACJC doubleheader to the NJCAA's top-ranked team, the Jones County Bobcats, Wednesday afternoon, falling 13-1 and 17-3. Game two ended in five innings.

The Bears trailed 9-0 in the opener before getting their only run of the game, a homer over the left field fence by catcher
Austin Moen. Jones County went on to add four more runs.

Carr Young took the loss on the mound, giving up nine runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk, in five innings of work. He struck out five batters. T Tez Cole, Scooter Ginn and Ray Hutchinson each had a single.

The Bobcats (29-1, 11-1) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in the finale. The Bears (12-15, 1-11) made it 3-2 in the bottom of the inning. Cole was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and scored on an error when Ginn reached on a fielder's choice. A
Crishaun Speight single then scored Ginn.

The Bears scored their final run of the game in their half of the fifth inning when
Andrew Beesley reached base on a one-out single, moved to third on a
Brantley Hughes double (his second hit of the game) and reached the plate on Hutchinson's base hit.

Tyler Pigott took the loss, giving up nine runs (one unearned) on nine hits and a pair of walks in four innings of work. He struck out two batters. Cole had a single in the game.

The Bears hit the road for their next conference double header, traveling to Senatobia on Saturday to face the Northwest Rangers. Game one is set for a 2:00 first pitch.
