Lady Bears split home doubleheader with Northwest

Miranda Magee blasted a two-out two-run homer over the fence in left field to give the Lady Bears a 3-2 win over Northwest in game one of their MACJC doubleheader Thursday in Summit. Northwest came back to get a split with a 5-3 win in the finale.

The Lady Bears (18-21, 14-10) took a 1-0 lead in the opener when
Kelcey Bremenkamp sent an 0-2 pitch over the right field fence in the bottom of the second inning. She would later add a single.

Northwest (19-17, 13-11) answered, using a pair of singles, a sacrifice, error and ground out to score two runs in the top of the third inning to go ahead 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh when, with
Kassie Shipley on base, Magee stepped to the plate to hit the game-winner.

Shipley got the complete-game win in the circle, giving up two unearned runs on eight hits while striking out one.
Amy Bonvillain, Gianca Holmes and Morgan Webb each had a base hit.

The Lady Bears took a 1-0 first inning lead in game two when Magee reached on a lead-off walk, moved to third on a Bonvillain base hit and scored on

Jordan Fitzgerald's sacrifice fly.

An error and Sallie Rose Carver homer to right field put Northwest on top 2-1 in the top of the third. Northwest then extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Bears tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles from Bremenkamp and
Rebecca Davis.

Using four singles, Northwest scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead at 5-3. They would go on to win by the same score.

Davis took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits in five innings of work. She struck out one batter.

Jenna Duff had a double and single in the game while Magee also had a double. Jeney Hudson also hit safely.

The Lady Bears begin the final week of the regular season on April 19 when they travel to Decatur to face the 8th-ranked East Central Lady Warriors. Game one of the conference doubleheader is set for a 3:00 first pitch.
