Lady Bears sweep visiting Mississippi Delta

The Lady Bears exploded for 22 runs on 18 hits Friday afternoon and returned to the win column with a 10-2, 12-2 MACJC doubleheader sweep of the visiting Mississippi Delta Trojans. Both games ended after five innings.
 
The Lady Bears (10-13, 6-2) sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning of the opener and ended the frame with an 8-0 lead. Jenna Duff got the ball rolling with an RBI single.Kelcey Bremenkamp had a double to drive in two runs; Amy Bonvillain scored two with a single (she later added another single); and,
Kristie Sanchez had an RBI double.The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Gianca Holmes who blasted a two-run homer over the centerfield fence.
 
Bonvillain reached on a fielder's choice in the second inning and Holmes recorded an RBI single to stretch the Lady Bears' advantage to 10-0.
 
The Lady Trojans (0-11, 0-4) scored single runs in their half of the third and fifth innings.
 
Kassie Shipley went the distance in the circle to get the win for the Lady Bears. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out three.
Miranda Magee had a single in the game.
 
The Lady Trojans took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, but it was short lived.
 
Bonvillain's solo homer to left field put the Lady Bears on the board in the bottom of the first. A Bremenkamp single scored another run. Four more runs followed that left the Lady Bears with a 6-2 lead.
 
Emily Tuminello's single in the bottom of the second scored Mikaela Smith from third to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 7-2.
 
Magee walked and Bonvillain singled to open the Lady Bears' third inning. Duff followed with a homer to left field to push the Lady Bears' advantage to 10-2.
 
The final two runs of the day crossed the plate in the bottom of the fourth via singles from Bonvillain and Duff (Duff finished the game with four hits).
 
Rebecca Davis pitched the full five innings to get the win for the Lady Bears. She surrendered two runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out five batters. Smith hit safely in the game.
 
The Lady Bears return to action on Sunday when they travel to Scooba to face the East Mississippi Lady Lions in a pair of conference games. Game one is set for a 3:00 first pitch.
