Game two rally falls short for Lady Bears, BRCC sweeps doubleheader

A two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh enabled home standing Baton Rouge Community College defeat the Lady Bears 6-5 and complete a doubleheader sweep Wednesday evening. Baton Rouge took the opener 8-0 in five innings.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 4-0 in the nightcap before getting three runs in their half of the fourth inning. Gianca Holmes blasted a pitch over the left field fence, with         Baylee Bryant on the base. Later in the inning, Jordan Fitzgerald's line-drive double sent Kristie Sanchez across the plate to bring the Lady Bears to within 4-3.
 
The game became knotted at 4-4 in the top of the sixth when Holmes led off with a single and later scored when Fitzgerald reached on an error.
 
Miranda Magee began the Lady Bears' seventh inning with a bunt single, her second hit of the game. Jeney Hudson's two-base hit to centerfield later allowed Magee to race home and put the Lady Bears on top 5-4.
 
A lead-off base hit, followed by the two-run homer, then allowed the hosts to get the walk off win in the bottom of the frame.
 
Mikaela Smith took the hard-luck loss in the circle for the Lady Bears. She surrendered six runs, three earned, on 10 hits while striking out one and walking two.
 
Two hits and a pair of errors resulted in a run for BRCC in the bottom of the second in game one. They went on to add three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to record the victory.
 
Rebecca Davis took the loss for the Lady Bears, allowing all eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits. She issued one base on balls.
 
Holmes, Magee and Morgan Webb each had one base hit for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond at 9:00 AM on February 17 when they face Lamar State-Port Arthur in Gulf Shores, AL, in the Sun Chief Classic tournament.
