Lady Bears defeat Northwest before falling to #10 LSU-Eunice

The Lady Bears split a of home games Friday afternoon, defeating the Northwest Lady Rangers 4-3 before falling to 10th-ranked LSU-Eunice 8-6. Earlier in the day, LSU-Eunice defeated Northwest 4-0.

The Lady Bears (7-7) took a 1-0, first-inning lead against Northwest when
JESSIE PENTON reached base on a dropped third strike and scored two batters later on
JENNA DUFF's line-drive single, the first of her two hits in the game.

JORDAN FITZGERALD reached base on a lead off error in the bottom of the second. MACY FULTON then followed with a home run to centerfield to put the Lady Bears up 3-0.

Fitzgerald picked up the first of her two hits in the game with a one-out single to left in the third inning. She then scored with two outs, to put the Lady Bears up 4-0, on
MCKENZIE BROCK's base hit, her second of the game.

A double, single and walk in the top of the sixth allowed Northwest to pick up a run to make the score 4-1. Three errors resulted in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but Northwest left the tying run on base and the Lady Bears were able to escape with the win.

Fulton went the distance in the circle to get the win for the Lady Bears. She allowed all three Northwest runs, only earned, on six hits while striking out one and walking one.

The Lady Bears trailed Eunice 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth when
JANA MCEWEN singled to send allow KELCEY BREMENKAMP to cross the plate for a 4-2 score.

Using a pair of singles and two errors, Eunice added three runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 7-2. In the bottom of the frame,
AUSTIN PRUITT walked to lead off and later made the score 7-3 when Duff reached on a fielder's choice.

The score was 8-3 when the Lady Bears came to bat in their half of the seventh. A Brock base hit, her second in the game, preceded doubles from Penton, Pruitt and McEwen that pushed three runs across the plate to make the score 8-6. But, that would be it for the Lady Bears as Eunice went on to claim the win.

REBECCA DAVIS took the loss in the circle, giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits. She struck out a pair of batters and walked one.

The Lady Bears are set to return to the diamond, and begin conference play, Tuesday in Wesson when they face arch-rival Co-Lin. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00.
