Lady Bears fall to visiting Co-Lin

The Southwest Lady Bears dropped a 60-52 decision to visiting Co-Lin Thursday night and with it, their spot in first place in the MACJC South Division.

The Lady Bears now stand at 15-4 overall and, at 7-3, in second place in the South. Their win moved Co-Lin to 12-7 overall and 5-5 in the South.

Southwest fell behind 8-0 early in the game. An April Levy jumper then put the Lady Bears on a 13-2 run, giving them a 13-10 lead with 11:14 left in the first half. The teams then swapped leads before Co-Lin took a 22-20 lead into the locker room at intermission.

A three-pointer from Katrina Littlepage gave the Lady Bears their final lead of the night, 23-22, with 19:39 to play in the game. With the teams tied at 25-25 and 18:25 to remaining, Co-Lin went on a 12-4 scoring streak to go on top 37-29 with 13:14 to play. The Lady Bears would come no closer than that eight-point deficit as they suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.

"We were not very good tonight," said Southwest head coach Brent Harris. "We played with very little energy and we must find a way to fight through adversity."

Littlepage topped the Lady Bears in scoring with 17 points. Courtney Epting, Levy and Tee Myers all scored seven points while Talisa Sherman picked up four points and Eyonna Wolfe recorded three.

Madison Mault, Raven Reyes and Elayne Robinson all netted two points in the game while Fredrikah Wilson registered one. The Lady Bears hit only nine of 21 free throws.

Co-Lin's Claresa Banks led all scorers with 24 points in the game. She and her teammates combined to make 12 of 27 free throws.

The Lady Bears try to return to winning form Monday when they travel to Poplarville to face the Lady Wildcats of Pearl River. Tipoff is set for 5:00.
