Lady Bears pick up 10th straight win

The Southwest Lady Bears tuned up for a return to South Division play Thursday night with a 61-45 win over visiting Holmes Community College. The win, their 10th in a row, moved the Lady Bears to 10-1 on the season while Holmes fell to 3-9.

Southwest took a 39-19 first half lead over the Lady Bulldogs behind Katrina Littlepage's 11 points. The game was tied twice in the first 3:33, but when April Levy nailed a three-pointer with 16:45 left in the half, the Lady Bears took an 8-5 lead and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way.

In the second half, Holmes narrowed their deficit to 12 points, 41-29, with 15:25 left to play. However, with Levy scoring eight points, the Lady Bears then went on a 14-4 run to push the lead up to 22 points, 55-33, with 8:09 remaining and they cruised to the 16-point win.

"I thought we were very good in the first half," said Southwest head coach Brent Harris, "and not so strong in the second half. Tee (Myers) was very consistent, April made some big plays and Tatyana (Dobbins) gave us good minutes. But, we have to be more consistent."

Levy led the Lady Bears, and all scorers, with 16 points in the game. Littlepage and Myers were also in double figures, both with 11 points. Fredrikah Wilson netted nine points in the game while Courtney Epting had five and Talisa Sherman added four.

Raven Reyes scored three points for the home team with Elayne Robinson picking up two. The Lady Bears hit 12 of 17 free throws.

Brandi Carter topped Holmes' offense with 11 points. The Lady Bulldogs made good on six of 12 free throws.

The Lady Bears (2-0 in South Division action) returns to the court Monday night when they travel to Wesson to face the Co-Lin Lady Wolves. Tipoff is set for 6:00.
