The road was not kind to the Southwest Lady Bears Monday night as they dropped a 69-48 South Division decision at Pearl River. The Southwest men also fell, 77-65.
The Southwest ladies (3-10, 0-2 South) found themselves in an early 8-0 hole with 15:21 left in the first half. A Shaniece Sheffield three-pointer then started an 11-4 run for the Lady Bears and brought them to within one point, 12-11, with 12:53 on the clock. Pearl River (7-4, 1-1 South) then outscored the Lady Bears 28-14 the rest of the way to take a 40-25 lead at the break.
The second half was all Pearl River. Opening the second half on an 11-0 run, the Lady Wildcats went up by 26 points, 51-25, with 16:03 left in the game and were never challenged.
The Lady Bears’ Shaniece Sheffield led all scorers with 21 points on the night. Shanekqua Bibbs was also in double figures with 11 points. Taylor Williams netted four points while Alexis Avery, Cassie Berry, Julencia Brown, Alex Newsome, Lacey Orr and Casey Brumfield all had two points apiece. Southwest made 21 of 29 free throws.
