Shayla Johnson is in her first year as assistant coach with the Lady Bears. The Magnolia-native and former South Pike great brings years of experience to the team.
From 2016 to 2022 she was a coach with the Rainin’ 3’s Hoop School in McComb where she worked with athletes across multiple age groups, assisting in skill development sessions and mentoring young players both on and off the court.
For the past two seasons, she was a volunteer assistant coach at South Pike High School where she helped lead the Lady Eagles to the Region 7-3A District Championship in her second year.
Since 2022 she has been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management at Southeastern Louisiana University and is set to graduate in December 2025.
During her time as a student at South Pike, Johnson was a Mississippi Scholar, a member of the ACT 20s Club, had a 4.0 GPA and graduated Salutatorian of her class in 2022.
She was a member of the Lady Eagles varsity team since the seventh grade and earned the role of starting point guard from her eighth-grade year through her senior year. She was a two-time All-District selection, earned MVP honors and was named Athlete of the Year at South Pike.
In addition to her duties as a coach, Johnson also spent the Fall 2025 semester as an intern with Southwest Athletics.
