Cowart, Jr., named to NJCAA All-Region 23 team

After being named 1st Team All-State, Southwest sophomore guard Antonio Cowart, Jr., has been received another post-season honor after being named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 team.

A graduate of McComb High School, Cowart, Jr., helped the Bears to a 17-9 overall record in the 2017-18 season and appearances in the MACJC state tournament and the semi-finals of the Region 23 tournament. He was second on the team with 14.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and led the team with 6.3 assists per game.

During the season, Cowart, Jr., posted seven double-doubles. He had a season-high 23 points in a game versus Meridian, 10 rebounds in games against Delgado, East Central and Pearl River and a season-high 12 assists in a contest against Coahoma.

Bears head coach Thomas Gray said Cowart, Jr., "is a guy who has meant so much to us over the past two years. It's exciting to see people take notice of his growth, not only as a player, but as a person."

Continuing with his comments, Gray said "A lot of people from Southwest and McComb High School (already) knew that he was a special young man with a special talent, in terms of basketball. Now it's being known across the state and the country. I believe, to this point, he's received 17 Division 1 scholarship offers and I believe his being named All-Region is just one more accolade for him to add to such a decorated career here at Southwest."
